Open Door with the help of the St Albans’ community has supported over 7,000 people who have experienced homelessness and those who are at risk of turning, or returning to rough-sleeping. The Charity provides project funding for improvements to the shelter as well as covering the costs of the outreach services and volunteering.
Hightown Housing Association now operates the Open Door facility with the Charity focussing its efforts on fundraising to support and develop homelessness services offered in the local area. Whilst the premises are provided rent free from St Albans City and District Council and grants come from local authorities and government agencies, additional funds are always needed to support the facility.
“I now have a job, I’m married and have a child. Without the support of the Open Door Charity, it couldn’t have happened. Please help them to turn around people’s lives”
The shelter provides accommodation for up to 12 people each night. The drop-in offers support and advice, helping with job applications, housing and health issues. Hightown Housing Association is responsible for the day to day management of the Open Door facility. Further information with contact details are here and help can be reached on 01727 859113.
We are a local charity supported by our community. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we continue to improve services at the Open Door facility. With your help people can escape homelessness, find a job and lead more settled lives. Of course having a bed for the night is of immense help to homeless people, but just as important is the dignity of having your own room and the self-respect gained from talking to others over a meal and getting help at the drop-in service.
We very much welcome the support of individuals, businesses and community organisations. If you would like to support the Open Door Charity, please consider giving us a donation, or organising a fundraising event. Please see the Volunteering and Donating section for more details.
