I'm homeless
If you or someone you know is experiencing homelessness in St Albans, there is support available.
The Open Door homelessness service, operated by Hightown Housing Association*, is dedicated to providing assistance with both immediate shelter and long-term housing solutions, primarily for single people (note we do not provide services for families, who should contact their local council housing department).
Open Door Homeless Hub – short term accommodation
Located in the city centre on Bricket Road, the Open Door Homeless Hub offers a safe space with 12 ensuite bedrooms where guests can stay for up to 28 days.
We understand that reaching out for help can be daunting, but the experienced team of support workers are available to provide guidance and explore the best options for you.
To access the Homeless Hub, we encourage you to attend the Drop-In, which takes place at the Homeless Hub Monday to Friday, from 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm. This Drop In is open to anyone in need of support, whether currently staying at the shelter or not. During the Drop In, the support team can offer expert advice and assist with the referral process for staying at the shelter.
Additionally, our dedicated volunteers are present to provide lunch and a welcoming environment.
During the winter months, additional overnight accommodation is available at our Winter Beds Project. These are allocated by daily referral from the Drop In – to access these, attend Monday to Friday 2.30- 4pm.

A support worker will then guide you through the referral process.
