Open Door is saddened to share the passing of Michael Comley, a longstanding and valued supporter of our work.
Michael lived an extraordinary life. Known to some as “Mick the Punk” or “Lobotomy Michael,” to us he was simply Michael—a thoughtful and consistent presence over the years. Through letters and correspondence, he remained closely connected to Open Door, always taking a genuine interest in the people we support and the work we do in St Albans.
Michael shared his remarkable story in his book No More Walls, generously donating all proceeds to Open Door. His life, experiences, and reflections continue to inspire, and you can read more about Michael here.
Following his passing in December, Michael has left his legacy through a substantial donation to Open Door. We are incredibly grateful for this final act of kindness, which will help us continue our work as a community response to homelessness.
