As temperatures plummet this winter, there are people preparing to bed down and sleep on the streets of St Albans. The cost of living crisis and rising housing costs have caused more people to sleep rough, with those on the lowest incomes being affected most.
The Open Door Homeless Hub (previously known as the night shelter) offers 12 bed spaces to people experiencing homelessness in St Albans, but there still aren’t enough beds.
This Winter, for the 9th year running, we will be setting up the Winter Beds Project to prevent people from dying on the streets during the coldest months of the year.
The project is open and will remain open until the end of March 2026.
